How To Make Flax Eggs
Flax eggs are the perfect alternative if you’re following a vegan diet or just want to eliminate eggs from you diet. They are SO easy to make and only require 2 ingredients! In addition to being super simple, flaxseed is actually loaded with nutrients. It’s rich in omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, and lignans (which may help reduce the risk of cancer). Flaxseed has also been shown to help reduce high blood pressure, as well as lower blood sugar levels.
Flax eggs are a great alternative to eggs for baking because they create a thick gel-like substance that’s very similar to an actual egg. They are my go-to egg substitute for vegan baking. I like to use Bob’s Red Mill Flaxseed Meal to make my flax eggs, which has a mild, nutty flavor.
Ingredients for flax eggs
- Flaxseed meal
- Water
Tips for making flax eggs
- I like to make my flax eggs first, before I start mixing the rest of my ingredients. That way the “egg” has time to thicken and is ready to go when it’s needed.
- Store your opened bag of flaxseed meal (if using) in the fridge, it will last longer.
- This isn’t always a 1:1 ratio for eggs, some recipes will vary in the amount of water and/or flaxseed meal to use.
- I use this recipe and double it to make 2 flax eggs for my Quick & Easy Vegan Grain Free Rolls
